Services

I am a writing tutor. My specialty is social studies (history, political science, etc.) but I also tutor students in other academic subjects in the humanities such as English, art history, sociology and philosophy. I can also help students as they write and revise their college essays.

• Write research papers, helping them work rough drafts into polished, final versions

• Prepare for take-home or in-class test essays

• Write college essays or other essays for summer programs

• Write cover letters and applications for summer jobs

I also support students as they work to…

• Better understand what questions and prompts are asking

• Outline and plan their writing, including preparing for in-class essays

• Formulate strong thesis statements (arguments) and topic sentences

• Find and use reliable evidence to support an argument

• Research a topic to find and keep track of reliable and relevant sources

• Express their arguments using correct grammar, sentence structure and word choice

• Format their papers using different citation styles (MLA, Chicago, APA, in-text citations, footnotes and endnotes)

 Other learning skills I can help with:

• Executive functioning (this includes organizing materials; keeping track of assignments; planning work on longer-term assignments)

• Note-taking when reading; annotating reading

Please note: While I cannot guarantee that a student will get an A on a particular piece of work, I do promise that they will learn how to improve their writing and better understand what it takes to earn that A for themselves.
